Ultrasonic Leak Detectors for Compressed Air

It’s important to be aware of leaks in compressed air systems because they impact productivity, process efficiency, and compressor life. But it’s even more critical to be able to locate leaks quickly and repair them. This becomes more difficult when leaks are very small or happen in confined spaces that are difficult to assess by eye or ear.

Compressed air leak detectors make it far easier to find and fix leaks before they grow or cause major equipment or safety problems downstream. Compressed Air Systems is a trusted supplier of compressed air equipment and accessories, including ultrasonic leak detectors. Learn more about these products below.

The Advantages of Ultrasonic Leak Detection Technology

More reliable than visual or auditory or tactile inspection, can be used indoors or outdoors even if noise or wind are present, non-invasive, highly accurate even for smallest leaks. As a result it’s possible to check for leaks at any time, even during peak productive hours. Leaks can be identified and repaired sooner, even during peak operating times, compressors don’t work as hard to compensate for pressure loss, and productivity doesn’t suffer.

Leaks in pressurized gas systems generate noise in the ultrasonic range, which is difficult or impossible for the human ear to hear unaided. Compressed Air Systems offers three ultrasonic leak detector options that make it possible to detect leaks and take action quickly.

LD 500/510 Compressed Air Leak Detectors

LD 500/510 Compressed Air Leak Detectors

The UltraCam LD 500 and LD 510 ultrasonic leak detectors are highly sensitive for identifying even the tiniest leaks in gas pipelines and compressed air systems. Both models feature an UltraCam, which is a funnel-shaped device with an integrated camera and 30 individual micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) microphones. The camera also includes a brightness sensor that activates LEDs in dark environments.

Additional features include:

  • Full-color visual representation of the leak in real-time.
  • Still photo capabilities to capture leak images.
  • Display including leakage rate and estimated leak costs.
  • Soundproof headset.
  • Focus tube and focus tip for precision detection.
  • Laser distance measurement to help estimate the cost of leaks.
  • Paperless documentation and ISO 50001-compliant reporting with CS Leak Reporter.
  • On-the-fly spare parts list generation for repairs.
  • USB port for data logging.
  • Protective transport case, holster, and AC adapter plug.

Both models are compatible with CS Leak Reporter, which quickly creates ISO 50001-compliant reports for leaks. A two-user-license desktop version and multi-user cloud-based version are available.

The LD 510 is also compatible with additional accessories including an FA 510 dewpoint sensor, VA 500 flow probe, standard pressure probe, and CS Basic data evaluation and graphing software.

LD 450 Compressed Air Leak Detector

LD 450 Compressed Air Leak Detector

The LD 450 leak detector uses an acoustic trumpet that converts ultrasonic range sounds to audible frequencies that humans can hear. An integrated laser pointer also helps pinpoint leaks more easily. The LD 450 compressed air leak detector is ideal for detecting leaks in compressed air, vacuum, and gas systems, along with door seals.

Additional features include:

  • Soundproof headset.
  • Lightweight, ergonomic design.
  • A minimum operating time of 10 hours.
  • High-capacity Li-Ion battery with 10+ hours of operating time, and an external charger.
  • Adjustable sensitivity.
  • Protective membrane keypad.

The device is also available on its own or as part of a set, complete with a protective transport case and various accessories.
